CONCORD, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team sits in fifth place out of nine teams after day one of the Granite State Opener.
Day one of the event saw the student-athletes battle through 36 holes at Beaver Meadow Golf Club in Concord, N.H. The programs are scheduled to conclude the open on Tuesday, Sept. 13 with the final 18 holes of competition.
The Hawks posted rounds of 292 and 297 on day one, finishing the day at 13-over for the event. Assumption University leads with a team score of 580, which is just two-over, followed by Southern New Hampshire (581), Post (582), and Franklin Pierce (585).
Matt Conti from Southern New Hampshire
is the clubhouse leader on the individual leaderboard at six-under through 36 holes. Conti posted an even-par 72 in his opening 18 holes before carding a six-under 66 in round two.
Senior
Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore
Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) are tied for the Hawks individual leaders at one-under with a total stroke count of 143, which is good for a tie for fifth.
Semons posted a one-over 73 in his first round before posting a two-under 70 on his second time around Beaver Meadow. The senior cared five birdies and just three bogeys with four of his birdies coming in the second round of the day.
Papamechail was tied for the individual lead after 18 holes on Monday when he carded his collegiate-best, a three-under 69. He added a two-over 74 to put him at one-under for the event. Papamechail posted a team-high eight birdies on the day with three bogeys and one double bogey plus. The sophomore carded four birdies in each round on Monday.
Senior
Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) posted a pair of three-over 75's, placing third on the day for the Hawks with a score of 150. Dascoli is tied for 24th in the individual leaderboard. Dascoli posted four birdies, two in each round, with six bogeys and two double bogeys.
Junior
Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) carded a pair of 78's between his two rounds on Monday. Forti sits at 12-over for the event which puts him in a tie for 39th. Forti registered four birdies on the day with three of them coming in round two. He also carded 14 bogeys and one double.
Freshman
Anthony Picano (Reading, Mass.) made his collegiate debut on day one and finished the day at 14-over, good for a tie for 47th. Picano fired a three-over 75 in his opening 18 before closing the second round with an 11-over 83. Picano posted an eagle on the par-five 10th and added four birdies on the day to go with eight bogeys and four double bogey plus.
