The NCAA Division II National Championship game will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Interbay Stadium in Seattle, Wash., the home of the men's and women's soccer programs at Seattle Pacific University.
Saint Anselm qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals for the second consecutive season, something the program has not accomplished since the 1994 and 1995 campaigns. The Hawks registered 10 wins in 2022, marking consecutive seasons with double-digit wins. The women's soccer program most recently reached that feat in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
The Hawks entered the selection show as the No. 6-ranked team in the East Region, according to both the most recent official NCAA regional rankings and the United Soccer Coaches regional poll. Saint Anselm owns a 10-7-1 record entering the NCAA postseason after posting a 5-6-1 record against NE10 opponents during the regular season.
Bridgeport owns a 13-3-5 record and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason by way of a 2-0 win over Chestnut Hill in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship game on Sunday. The Purple Knights captured the CACC regular season and postseason crowns in their first season within the conference and will be making its 12th appearance in the NCAA postseason in the last 15 season.
The two programs will be meeting for the eighth time in the women's soccer all-time series. Bridgeport, who was ranked No. 1 nationally, grabbed a 1-0 win over Saint Anselm on Oct. 4, 2011, marking the last time the two programs met. The Purple Knights hold a slight edge over the Hawks, owning a 3-2-2 mark in the series.
Saint Anselm posted one of its finest starts in program history in 2022, becoming just the second team in program history to win each of its first four matches. The team was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National poll which has not been done since the 1999 season.
