ENDICOTT, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team sits in seventh after day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.
The 11 men's golf programs in the conference played 36 holes on Sunday at the En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y. 18 holes are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 3 to conclude the conference championship.
Southern New Hampshire leads after the first day of play. The Penmen sit at 15-over for the tournament after totaling 591 strokes. Le Moyne trails Southern New Hampshire by just two strokes with the reigning conference champions, Assumption, following closely at 20-over, just five shots off the lead.
Evan Rollins from Southern New Hampshire and
Tyler Birdd from Le Moyne are tied for the individual lead at one-under, totaling 143 strokes on Sunday.
Saint Anselm posted a team score of 317 in round one before shaving 14 strokes in round two, finishing the opening day at 620. The second round of 303 was the seventh-best team round out of 22 total rounds played.
Senior
Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore
Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) carded two-round scores of 154 to lead the Hawks. The duo sits in a tie for 22nd on the leaderboard.
Semons turned in a six-over 78 and added a four-over 76 while Papamechail opened with a four-over 76 and closed with a six-over 78.
After carding an 84 in his opening round, junior
Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) turned in a one-under 71, marking the best round by a Saint Anselm student-athlete on the day. Forti's 71 is also the best score at the NE10 Championship for the Hawks since the 2017-18 season and is a career-best. Forti sits just one shot back of Semons and Papamechail which puts him in a tie for 26th.
Senior
Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) turned in rounds of 79 and 78 on Sunday to put him in a tie for 30th for the tournament. Dascoli made his conference championship debut on Sunday.
Freshman
Anthony Picano (Reading, Mass.) totaled 170 strokes in his conference championship debut after going 89, 81 in rounds one and two. He is 51st on the leaderboard.
