MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College softball team will play its first doubleheader at home on Wednesday, Apr. 7 with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Assumption University at the South Athletic Fields.

The Hawks head into the week with a 7-1 overall record along with a perfect 4-0 record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Saint Anselm is currently sitting 16th in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll.

HAWKS NOTES
  • In the most recent NFCA poll, Saint Anselm is the only nationally-ranked team to have played 10 or fewer contests in its 2021 season.
  • Senior Morgan Perry (Bethany, Conn.) recently earned Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after helping the team sweep the Falcons of Bentley University over last weekend.
  • In game one against Bentley, Perry fanned 10 batters in the process, earning her 70th career win and holding the top spot on the all-time victories list. On Saturday against Bentley, Perry fanned a career-high 17 batters in her game one victory, setting the program's single-game strikeout mark. Over four appearances in 2021, Perry has struck out 58 batters, ranking within the top three spots in the NE10 and not yielding a single run in those contests. Perry also tied for the lead in the NE10 with the lowest ERA with 0.00 along with her teammate McKenna Smith (Old Town, Maine).
  • Smith also has not allowed a run in her three outings, allowing two hits in her first two matchups against New Haven and American International. On Saturday, Smith threw a complete game, striking out eight batters while surrendering six hits. Teammate Courtney Fisher (Taunton, Mass.) has also played a key role in the Hawks pitching staff, heading into the week with a 2-1 record. She has only allowed three runs over her three appearances.
  • Junior Bre Klaiber (Ironton, Ohio) leads the team with a .450 batting average along with a .500 on-base percentage. Senior Lauren Washburn (Carmichael, Calif.) had a fantastic weekend, recording two or more hits in each of the Hawks four games with Bentley, featured by a four-hit performance in the final game on Saturday. Washburn is currently on a seven-game hitting streak along with holding the team lead in hits with 12 on the season.
  • Right behind Washburn in the team's rankings is senior Shannon Colson (Rochester, N.H.) who has posted a .375 batting average over eight games. She has posted nine hits, two of them doubles and a triple. Colson is also on a three-game RBI streak, recording three in the Hawks 8-0 win over Bentley in the second game.
  • Senior Abbie Murrell (Scarborough, Maine) joins Washburn with her own seven-game hitting streak, dating back to the season-opening 2-0 victory over New Haven on Mar. 20.
REVIEWING THE GREYHOUNDS
  • The Greyhounds finished with a 4-6 overall record prior to the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports season. Alyssa Beaton finished the season leading the Greyhounds with a .444 batting average and 12 hits. Mia Patriacca posted a 2-1 record in 2020 with a 2.13 ERA over 26.1 innings pitched. Mia Nowicki struck out 23 batters in 25.2 innings pitched.
  • In 2021, Assumption swept the Penmen from Southern New Hampshire University in its season-opener, 4-1 and 4-2, back in Mar. 25. The Greyhounds would then split a four-game season series with Franklin Pierce University this past weekend. Assumption swept the final two games of the series, defeating the Ravens, 2-1, in both contests.
  • So far this season, Mckenzie Richards leads the team with a .533 batting average along with eight hits. She has also drove in two runs over six games. Corin Mahan is one of the three Greyhounds student-athletes to have earn a batting average of above a .411. Mahan has posted a .438 batting average, including hitting seven hits and scoring three runs. Beaton rounds out the student-athletes with a .411 or greater batting average through six games, totaling three doubles, one triple, and one home run, helping her to a .412 average. Beaton is tied with her teammate Jordan Dwyer with four runs scored.
  • The Greyhounds ranked second in the nation with a .989 fielding percentage.
  • Erin Barry and Nowicki has both started in three games with Barry posting a team-best 1.67 earned run average over 21 innings pitched. Both Barry and Nowicki has struck out nine batters so far this season.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
  • Since 2004, the Hawks hold a slim 19-17 advantage in the all-time series, including claiming six straight wins from 2018 to Wednesday. In the past 10 matchups between both teams, the Hawks hold a 7-3 record.
  • In that span, the Hawks have totaled 150 runs, which averages 4.17 per game since Apr. 25, 2004.
  • The last time the Hawks and Greyhounds faced each other in 2019 when Saint Anselm picked up the season sweep, earning 7-1 and 9-4 victories. Jordan O'Connor '19 went 3-for-6 at the plate, driving in six runs and scoring once over the two games.
