LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior
Morgan Perry (Bethany, Conn.) of the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College softball team kept the accolades coming as she earned Wilson/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
Perry and the Hawks are currently ranked 15th in all of Division II, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll. This is the second time that Perry has earned this honor, which is also the second time in program history that a Hawks student-athlete earned the honor. She won the accolade back on Mar. 19, 2020 when she finished the opening week by registering two complete games and 35 strikeouts.
To begin her week on Tuesday, Perry struck out six Franklin Pierce batters in three innings pitched. She then fired a no-hitter on Friday against Saint Michael's, the third of her career and the first since Mar. 21 when she fanned 16 batters in her team's season-opener. She also struck out 18 against the Purple Knights. Just 24 hours later, she threw a perfect game with 10 strikeouts on Saturday which was the first in program history.
On Saturday, she broke the all-time wins record in the NE10 with 79 in her career, surpassing
Angela Locsin of Pace.
Over 12 appearances in 2021, Perry has won each of her outings, posting the best earned-run average in the NE10 (0.37). Perry has excelled in the strikeout category as she has fanned 150 batters this season. That mark ties her for ninth place with
Lisa Petell '99 in single-season history.
The last perfect game in the NE10 was when Assumption's
Mia Nowicki completed the feat against Stonehill on Apr. 9, 2019. Perry now joins 12 student-athletes from the NE10 who have thrown a perfect game in their careers.
The Hawks will finish the regular season with a four-game series with Stonehill College, starting on Friday, Apr. 30 at the South Athletic Fields.
