MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College has been selected to host the entire NCAA Division II East Region Softball Championship in 2021.
The Hawks have previously hosted regional and super regional play in 2018 and 2019, but the 2021 postseason will be a six-team tournament that will yield the East Region champion. The regional championship is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 19 and conclude on Saturday, May 22.
The NCAA Division II National Championship in softball will be played at the Regional Athletic Complex in Denver, Colo., hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver, starting Thursday, May 27.
On Monday, May 17, the NCAA will announce the field of 48 teams on NCAA.com with a 10 a.m. selection show. Each of the games in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship will be played at the South Athletic Fields.
The Hawks first hosted NCAA postseason softball play in 2018, winning the East Region title on its own field on the way to a National Championship runner-up finish. Most recently, Saint Anselm made it to the decisive final game of the 2019 regional championship, but fell to LIU Post in the third and final game of the best-of-three Super Regional.
In addition to softball, Saint Anselm has also hosted NCAA postseason play in men's basketball and field hockey since the 2016-17 academic year and is set to host the 2023 NCAA Division II Field Hockey National Championship at Grappone Stadium.
So far in 2021, Saint Anselm owns a 14-2 overall record and is ranked 14th in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll. Saint Anselm is riding a four-game winning streak after recently sweeping doubleheaders against Assumption and Southern New Hampshire and owns a 44-5 (.898) record when playing at home since the 2018 season.
