INDIANAPOLIS – The strong academic achievements of Saint Anselm College student-athletes were once again reflected in recently-released data from the NCAA.
Saint Anselm set an institutional record with a 94% academic success rate (ASR) among student-athletes who entered the College from 2011-14 to rank 11th out of more than 300 NCAA Division II athletics programs in the country. Furthermore, the Hawks collectively posted a federal graduation rate (FGR) that is ranked 13th nationally.
The ASR, developed 17 years ago, is a metric that measures the graduation rate of student-athletes, regardless of athletic scholarship status, who enrolled from 2011 through 2014, the four years covered in the most recent data.
"Saint Anselm student-athletes continue to demonstrate excellence both athletically and in the classroom," remarked College President Dr. Joseph A. Favazza. "To be able to succeed in intercollegiate competition while fully embracing the pursuit of a transformational liberal arts education can be challenging, but this NCAA data demonstrates that our student-athletes embrace this challenge."
Among NE10 colleges and universities, Saint Anselm ranked fourth in both federal graduation rate (81%) and academic success rate (94%). As a conference, the Northeast-10 saw 89% of its student-athletes graduate in the 2011-14 cohort, the best rate among all NCAA Division II conferences.
The institution's record-setting academic success rate was helped by perfect scores of 100% from men's golf, women's basketball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, softball and women's cross country. Out of the 16 varsity sports programs eligible for the report, 14 of those had an ASR over 90%. The field hockey team has posted a perfect 100% ASR since its varsity inception in 2001.
