SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Heading into the fourth quarter tied at 45, Saint Anselm outscored Caldwell by a 29-14 margin in the final 10 minutes to secure a 74-59 win at a neutral court. Senior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) produced a well-rounded stat line, scoring 24 points with 11 rebounds and four assists.
  • Sophomore Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) posted 20 points with junior McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) notching 11 points in the game against Caldwell. Both Turco and Ouellette reached career-highs in point scoring.
  • Freshman Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) broke out for 11 rebounds, nine points and three steals. Across her first four games at the collegiate level, she is 9-for-14 from the floor (64.3%) and has picked up 16 rebounds in those games.
  • With the score tied entering the fourth quarter against Caldwell, the Hawks opened up play on a 13-2 scoring run that was keyed by a five-for-five shooting percentage from the floor. In that stretch, Turco led the way with six points and was joined on the scoresheet by four points from Hoyt and three from Steinman.
  • Caldwell cut the Hawks lead to 60-55 with 5:03 to go, but Saint Anselm ended the game on a 14-4 scoring run to lock down the win. Turco had eight points in that span, finishing with 16 points in the game's final 10 minutes alone. Steinman also chipped in with nine points and five rebounds in the final 10 minutes as her team was a combined 10-for-16 (62.5%) in crunch time.
  • The Hawks had an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance on Friday against Dominican (N.Y.), finishing the game with just 22.8% of its field goals finding the bottom of the net. The team rebounded with a 45.8% shooting percentage (27-for-59) in the next game – Saint Anselm has made at least 13 free throws in all but one game (3-for-4 vs. Bentley, Nov. 17).
  • Steinman comes into Tuesday's game with 1,288 points, reaching that total in 94 career games at Saint Anselm. Ranking 12th all-time, she needs just 37 points to climb into 10th place all-time on the scoring list. In doing so, she would pass Athletics Hall of Famer Kathleen Shippee '95, the aunt of Steinman's teammate, Olivia Bonee (West Hartford, Conn.).
  • Steinman presently ranks eighth all-time in career points per game (13.7) and her career free throw percentage of 83.6% is the fourth-best figure in team annals (361-for-432). She needs an additional 22 free throw makes to set the team record, held by Addie Stiles '99 and her 381 free throws made from 1996-99.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • Southern New Hampshire enters with a 3-1 record after posting a 16-13 record in the most recently completed full season in 2019-20. The Penmen finished below .500 in league play, winning just eight of their 19 games versus NE10 foes.
  • Graduate student Meg Knollmeyer equaled her team's all-time rebound record against Georgian Court, pulling down 26 rebounds in her team's 72-61 win on Saturday. The record was originally established in the 1979-80 season.
  • Fellow graduate student Gyanna Russell has poured home double-digits in point scoring across all four games for the Penmen, scoring a season-high 20 points last time out against Georgian Court. She is shooting exactly .500 (22-for-44) this season.
  • The Penmen are just 9-for-49 from three-point distance in their last three games, including an 0-for-11 mark against Georgian Court. The team has produced from the free throw line, however, shooting above 81% (57-for-70) on the season.

ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • The Hawks enjoy a comfortable 51-20 (.718) lead in the all-time series with Southern New Hampshire, formerly known as New Hampshire College. Saint Anselm has only defeated Saint Michael's (54) and Assumption (52) more times than Southern New Hampshire.
  • Saint Anselm has won 11 of the last 13 games against the Penmen, but Southern New Hampshire claimed an 88-83 win last time out on Feb. 11, 2020. The win by SNHU snapped what was an eight-game winning streak for Saint Anselm over the Penmen.
  • In the 88-83 loss in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, Shannon Ryan '20 posted a career-high 38 points after logging 33 points, then a career-best mark, against SNHU earlier in the season. Karlee Ziliak finished with a career-high 27 points against the Hawks, helping her team to the win.
