Saint Anselm is coming off a 56-7 loss at New Haven on Saturday. In a week where three of the four losing teams on last week's Northeast-10 Conference calendar were shut out, Saint Anselm was the only team to score in defeat.

Stonehill improved to 4-1 overall on the season with a convincing 25-0 victory over American International on Saturday. The Skyhawks forced five interecptions in the win and kept the Yellow Jackets to just 157 yards, including negative yardage in the home team's running game.

Saturday's game is the 16th meeting where the Ol' Bronze Hawk trophy is being contested.

Fans looking to attend Saturday's game on the Stonehill campus are reminded to abide by the hosts' Spectator Policy. Each member of the visiting party to the campus must complete the Stonehill centralized Campus Access Authorization Form.

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Saint Anselm threw six interceptions last time out against the Chargers from the University of New Haven, falling to the hosts by a 56-7 margin on Saturday, Oct. 9. Saint Anselm limited the potent New Haven offense to just three successful conversions on third down, but the defensive unit for New Haven set up the majority of their team's eight scores on the afternoon.
  • The Hawks recorded their lone points on the afternoon with three seconds left in the first half, capping off a seven play, 65-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to senior Bobby Long (Bridgewater, Mass.). Sophomore quarterback Drew Willoughby (Austin, Texas) threw seven of his 24 pass completions on the day during that successful drive.
  • The offensive line for Saint Anselm had another strong game for the Hawks against New Haven, conceding just two sacks in Saturday's loss – those two takedowns of a Saint Anselm quarterback were the first since Merrimack had three sacks in the season-opener on Sept. 4.
  • Junior Devin Williams (Cliffwood, N.J.) was the leading tackler on the day for Saint Anselm, finishing with seven takedowns to his credit. Saint Anselm also logged at least seven tackles for a loss for the fourth time in five games this season.
  • Freshman Austin Spille (Austin, Texas) and senior Seth Kourtesis (Portsmouth, R.I.) each posted a quarterback sack of three yards. Junior Sulton Woolbright, Jr. (Temple Hills, Md.) had a team-best two pass break-ups on the day.
DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS
  • Saint Anselm sophomore Drew Willoughby (Austin, Texas) has been named the NE10 Rookie of the Week on three occasions this season. Earlier this season, he became the first Saint Anselm student-athlete to win the league's top rookie honors since Andrew Murphy '16 was so recognized in the three weeks spanning from Oct. 22-Nov. 5, 2012.
  • His 47 pass completions against nationally-ranked Bentley on Oct. 2 was the second-most by a Division II quarterback so far this season. Braden Gleason of Emporia State hooked up with receivers on 48 passes, doing so against Central Missouri on Oct. 9.
  • Versus Bentley on Oct. 2, Willoughby threw for 456 yards, a mark that stands as the eighth-highest single game total across the nation.
  • Willoughby leads all NCAA Division II quarterbacks with 31.6 completions per game. His 331.8 passing yards per game stands as the third-most by any signal-caller in the country and if the season ended prior to Saturday's game against Stonehill, the figure would top the single-season list for the Hawks.
  • Willoughby has completed 158 passes in a Saint Anselm uniform across five career games. He already ranks eighth in career history in pass completions and needs just 31 against the Skyhawks to move into seventh place all-time.
ANOTHER LONE STAR STATE PRODUCT
  • Junior Anthony Brown (Belton, Texas) earned the league's Special Teams Player of the Week honors on Sept. 27 after a strong game against Franklin Pierce.
  • Brown had an all-around solid game for the Hawks at home against Franklin Pierce, scoring a 68-yard receiving touchdown thrown by Willoughby and later adding a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown (second-longest in team history) within the third quarter's final six minutes. He finished with five catches for 181 yards and two punt returns for 63 yards (fifth-most in single-game history).
  • Among NCAA Division II student-athletes, Brown is second nationally with one punt return touchdown and ranks second in the NE10 in receptiosn per game (5.8), receiving yards per game (86.4) and receiving touchdowns (5).
  • Entering the contest against Stonehill, Brown leads all Hawks in team history with 12.4 average yards per punt return and is second in average kick return yardage (23.4). His average yards per reception figure (13.58) is third all-time in team annals.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
  • So far in 2021, the Hawks have combined to produce 41 tackles for a combined loss of 132 yards. On the flip side, Saint Anselm has conceded just 19 tackles for a loss so far this season.
  • The Hawks have also registered 16 quarterback sacks this year and have given up just six, thanks to a strong offensive line in front of Saint Anselm quarterbacks.
  • Fifth-year senior Ryan Sullivan (Stoughton, Mass.) has posted 230 tackles since joining the team in 2017, ranking 10th all-time in career history.
CALL HIM "PAT"-RICK CARROLL
  • Freshman Patrick Carroll (Stafford, Va.) has booted home 16 extra points so far this season, ranking ninth all-time in team history in PAT's through just five career games.
NE10 PRESEASON POLL
  • Saint Anselm was projected to finish sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference, according to the league's preseason coaches' poll released prior to the season. The Hawks have not placed sixth or higher in a season since the 2015 campaign (T-5th/10).
  • New Haven tops the 2021 NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning six first-place votes.
  • In 2019, Saint Anselm knocked off three of the league's top five programs in that season's preseason coaches' poll, downing New Haven, Assumption and Southern Connecticut State late in the year.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
  • Through five games of play, Stonehill leads the NE10 (and ranks seventh nationally) in defending on fourth down. The Skyhawks have conceded just 20% of opponent's attempts on fourth down, the seventh-best figure in NCAA Divsiion II.
  • The Stonehill defense has yielded just 16.8 points, on average, to rank second in the NE10 and 21st in the country. The team also has conceded just 68 first downs all year, the nation's third-finest figure.
  • Running back Justin Felder is one of the team's stand-out performers, ranking fifth in NCAA Division II with 11 rushing touchdowns. He averages over 132 yards on the ground per game, the sixth-best figure in the country, and ranks 10th in the country with 664 rushing yards to date.
  • Chris Domercant is collecting 25.06 yards per reception, leading the NE10 while ranking sixth in the country.
  • Defensively, Nate Bresson is ninth in the country with 1.2 sacks per game. His 1.2 tackles for a loss per game is also the ninth-finest figure in the nation.
