PREVIEW: Men's and women's cross country to compete at Bruce Kirsh Cup

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, traveling to participate in the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.

The men's 8K race will be contested at 10 a.m. with the women's 5K race to be followed at 11 a.m. in Hopkinton, N.H. Saint Anselm enters the weekend with the No. 3-ranked women's cross country team in the East Region.

Most recently, in 2019, the Hawks women's team had three top-10 finishers at the Bruce Kirsh Cup, placing first out of seven competing institutions. The result was the first time since the 2011 season in which the Hawks have claimed a first place team victory. The men finished fifth out of six teams in 2019.

Last time out at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 18 of this season, the Hawks men's cross country team placed 11th out of 33 programs, finishing second among NCAA Division II competition. The women's team for Saint Anselm finished fourth out of 30 teams while the junior varsity race was won by the Hawks.

Four sophomores led the Hawks in scoring at UMass Dartmouth as Trevor Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) crossed the line in 25:57.8 and was followed by Chris Hogan (Plymouth, Mass.) and his time of 26:10.7. Tyler Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) and Josh Nottebart (Pelham, N.H.) followed with times of 26:34.1 and 26:42, respectively – junior Alex Horan (Clifton, Va.) was the fifth and final scorer (26:47.1).

Freshman Nora Conway (Stoneham, Mass.) once again led the Hawks at UMass Dartmouth, posting a 5K time of 18:55 to place 15th in the field and third overall among first-year harriers. Senior Dominique Engle (Rutland, Mass.) contributed a 23rd place (and personal-best) time of 19:08.2 with the tandem of sophomore Kaitlyn Boles (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Ava O'Donnell (Raynham, Mass.) logging times of 19:30.4 and 19:32.1, respectively.
