Throughout the fall semester, beginning Sept. 2, the Department of Athletics will profile several current student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. These features will include both written responses to a series of questions and videos of student-athletes answering rapid-fire questions.
Senior captain Franklin Holgate (Easton, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College football team enters his fourth season on the Hilltop. He has played a crucial role for Saint Anselm, appearing in 23 games and totaling 584 receiving yards along with five touchdowns. He had a breakout season in 2019, averaging 12.1 yards per game and four touchdowns. Holgate also returned three kick returns in 2019, combining for 62 yards. The wide receiver had nine catches for a season-high 129 receiving yards at Assumption on Sept. 14 and later scored a 42-yard touchdown on a pass from then-freshman Anthony Brown (Belton, Texas) in the 61-23 win over Assumption on Nov. 16.
Holgate played three years of football and basketball at Oliver Ames High School and then another two at Noble & Greenough High School where he received the Male Athlete of the Year Award. He is majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology.

What is your favorite moment / highlight as a member of the Hawks so far?
My favorite moment as a member of the football team was our comeback win against New Haven last year - we were down by 31-22 in the game's final 4:45, and we were able to keep momentum and topple New Haven.
What made you fall in love with the sport of football?
I fell in love with football due to the contact and the extra work you have to put in behind the scenes.
What three words/phrases would your teammates use to describe you?
Determined, encouraging, and reliable
If you were not playing football, what sport would you have pursued?
Basketball
What is something most people do not know about you?
I despise when things are not clean and organized.
What did you do to get through the COVID-19 lockdown that you would not done originally?
I spent extra time with my family and helped to take care of my grandmother.
What has been your favorite class on the Hilltop?
Sports Psychology was my favorite class on the Hilltop because being a student-athlete I found it interesting and important to learn how psychological factors affect performance and participation in sports.
Which staff or faculty member at Saint Anselm has made an impact on your life?
Head Coach Joe Adam and Assistant Coach John Trisciani have made an impact on my life here at Saint Anselm because they have always encouraged me strive for the best. I knew whenever things were challenging for me, I could lean on them for support and guidance.
What advice would you give to any future Hawks?
Have goals and actively pursue them.
What are you looking forward to in the upcoming season?
Winning an NE10 Championship.
What do you hope to do after college?
Serve in the Military.
