How it Happened
The Hawks opened the scoring as junior Drew Forkner found senior Jaiden Haynes for a 36-yard score, which gave Saint Anselm a 7-0 lead just 4:49 into the contest after the ensuing point after try by junior Michael Guarneri made it through the uprights.
The Owls responded less than two minutes later with a 57-yard passing touchdown which leveled the score at 7-all following a successful PAT.
With 7:48 to play in the first, Saint Anselm regained its lead as Forker found classmate Anthony Almeida wide open as he ran into the endzone untouched for a 20-yard score. Guarnieri's extra point attempt was no good, keeping the score at 13-7.
The Owls went on to score 30 unanswered points beginning with a score in the opening 3:09 of the second quarter, with three rushing touchdowns, one passing score, and a 49-yard field goal coming over a span of 22:56. Southern Connecticut State's final touchdown came two plays with 4:55 to play in the third quarter following a muffed punt return by Saint Anselm.
