Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Sophomore Ryan Jacob scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute as the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team defeated Daemen University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field. Junior Brian Jones also found the back of the net for the Hawks, scoring for the third consecutive game. 

Highlights 

• Jones converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute to open the scoring for the Hawks. The junior has now scored in three consecutive games.  
• Jacob netted the eventual game-winning goal in the 80th minute, with junior Chance Prouty and sophomore Luke Delia each picking up an assist on the play.  
• Graduate goalkeeper David Hood made three saves, all in the first half, to earn his third win of the season.  
• Saint Anselm finished with a 34-9 advantage in shots, including a 23-5 edge in the second half, while putting 11 attempts on goal.  
• Prouty led all players with 10 shots, including three on goal, and added an assist. Jones and Jacob each registered six shots, with Jacob putting three on target and Jones recording two shots on goal. 

Saint Anselm generated the first two chances of the contest as Prouty fired a pair of shots in the sixth and eighth minutes.  

Hood was tested for the first time in the 10th minute, turning aside a shot from Daemen's Afonso Lino.  

The Hawks broke through in the 18th minute after a Daemen foul resulted in a penalty kick. Jones stepped to the spot and converted to give Saint Anselm the 1-0 advantage.  

Daemen looked for an immediate response, but Hood stopped Keegan Herrmann in the 19th minute before making his third save of the half on an attempt from Sincere Noble in the 26th minute.  

Sophomores Zachary Mantegari and Jason Xintaropoulos each put shots on goal later in the opening half, but Daemen goalkeeper Cristopher Vasquez made both saves as the Hawks carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.  

Saint Anselm came out firing to begin the second half, recording five shots in the opening five minutes. Prouty and Jacob combined for three shots on goal during the stretch, but Vasquez kept the Hawks from extending their advantage.  

The Hawks continued to pressure the Wildcats, with junior Jackson Lewis putting a shot on target in the 56th minute before Jones forced another save from Vasquez in the 59th minute.  

Daemen found the equalizer in the 72nd minute when Noble ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box into the top of the goal after Fabrizzio Jaramillo won the ball off a Hawks midfielder to make it 1-1. 

Saint Anselm responded with four shots over the next four minutes before breaking through again in the 80th minute. Prouty and Delia combined to set up Jacob, who found the back of the net to put the Hawks back in front, 2-1.  

Prouty nearly added an insurance goal moments later, putting a shot on target in the 81st minute before forcing another save from Vasquez in the 85th minute.  

The Hawks held Daemen without a shot on goal in the second half to close out the 2-1 victory.
