NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team earned weekly awards from the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10), with senior Meghan Smith named Player of the Week while sophomore Eliza Doyon was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Smith scored both goals in Wednesday's non-conference 2-1 victory over Bentley University before finding the back of the net for the Hawks' lone goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss to No. 2 Kutztown. Smith's tally against the Golden Bears marked the first goal allowed by Kutztown to that point through four contests this season.
Doyon came up big in Saturday's game against Kutztown, making a defensive save on the Golden Bears' first shot of the contest to keep the game level. Doyon and the defense blanked Kutztown's offense, which was averaging 8.67 goals per game coming into the matchup, through three-plus quarters of play.
Smith, Doyon, and the Hawks (2-2) return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 16 in a cross-town non-conference meeting with Southern New Hampshire University (2-1). Opening whistle from Dr. George J. Larkin Field is slated for 6 p.m.
