No. 6 Field Hockey Falls to No. 8 Bloomsburg, 2-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 6 Saint Anselm College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 8 Bloomsburg University on Sunday afternoon in its home opener at Grappone Stadium.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm earned four penalty corners during the opening 15 minutes, but Bloomsburg's defense kept the game scoreless.

Bloomsburg broke through just 56 seconds into the second quarter to give the visiting Huskies a 1-0 lead. Following a penalty corner, Raegan Iasiello found the back of the cage with 14:04 remaining in the half.

Saint Anselm continued to pressure the Bloomsburg defense, earning three penalty corners in the second quarter. The Hawks registered four shots during the period but could not find the equalizer, sending the game into halftime with Bloomsburg holding a one-goal advantage.

Bloomsburg added to its lead midway through the third quarter. Genna Bush converted a chance with 5:16 to play in the frame, with Alli Bucher providing the assist, to put the visitors ahead 2-0.

The Hawks responded with sustained pressure late in the third quarter, earning five penalty corners in the final five minutes of the period. Freshmen Alison Chambers and Khloe Schultz, sophomore Bella DiFiore, and van den Akker each registered chances but were unable to break through.

Wehrum kept the Hawks within striking distance at the other end, making four saves during the final period, including three saves during a Bloomsburg sequence midway through the quarter.

The Hawks earned one final penalty corner with 29 seconds remaining, but Bloomsburg's defense held firm to preserve the 2-0 victory.
