Men’s Soccer Rallies Past Staten Island, 3-2

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team rallied from a second-half deficit to defeat College of Staten Island, 3-2, in a non-conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm generated the first significant scoring chances of the contest, with sophomore Max Oelkers forcing a save in the ninth minute before classmates Ryan Jacob and Parker Bienvenue-Cernuda added shots during the opening 15 minutes. Hood also made two early saves to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard.

The Hawks broke through in the 26th minute when Baldwin finished a Prouty assist to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 advantage. Hood continued to keep Staten Island at bay late in the opening half, making three additional saves as the Hawks carried their one-goal lead into halftime.

Staten Island quickly turned the game around after halftime, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead. Claidi Nurcja leveled the contest before Feyisope Osifeso scored to put the Dolphins in front.

Saint Anselm responded with sustained pressure, as Proty, Jones and, Jacob each tested Staten Island goalkeeper Luca Schelling during the next 20 minutes. Schelling made several saves to preserve the Dolphins' advantage.

The Hawks' comeback began in the 73rd minute when Jones converted a penalty kick to even the score at 2-2. Just 26 seconds later, Prouty found the back of the net to put Saint Anselm back in front, 3-2.

Saint Anselm's defense held firm over the final 17 minutes, with Hood making two more saves to preserve the victory.
