NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Logan Montgomery of the Saint Anselm College men's outdoor track and field team has been selected as the East Region Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after an outstanding outdoor season.
Montgomery, who also received East Region Track Athlete of the Year honors during the indoor campaign, is the first student-athlete in program history to earn the distinction for the outdoor season.
Earlier this spring, Montgomery was named the NE10 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second straight season after collecting the conference's indoor Track Athlete of the Year award during the winter. His latest accolade comes one year after he was recognized as the NE10 Outdoor Rookie of the Year.
In just the third year of the program's existence, Montgomery became the first Hawk to be named NE10 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. At the conference championship meet, he helped Saint Anselm secure a program-best third-place finish by capturing three gold medals and three silver medals.
Montgomery claimed conference titles in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.00, the 400-meter dash in 46.81, and as the anchor of the victorious 4x100-meter relay team that crossed the line in 40.91. He also contributed to a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay, which posted a time of 3:19.84. Following his performance, he was named the men's Most Valuable Performer of the championship meet.
He also garnered USTFCCCA All-Region recognition in all four events during the outdoor season and finished the year as the East Region leader in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and 4x100-meter relay. Montgomery owns Saint Anselm outdoor program records in each of those events, along with the 4x400-meter relay.
