SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Eight members of the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team have earned New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England honors, as the organization announced Wednesday afternoon, headlined by senior Quinn Gannon being named the Player of the Year.
Gannon headlined the group by earning NEILA Player of the Year honors along with First Team All-New England recognition. Sophomores Matt Lemay, Ben Turpin, Eddie O'Brien, and Johnny Lucas, along with senior Brendan Crowley, each joined Gannon on the First Team, while juniors Mark Boyle and Jake Klepacki collected Second Team honors.
Gannon capped off one of the top seasons in program history after earning USA Lacrosse Magazine First Team All-America honors and United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) First Team All-North Region recognition. The senior faceoff specialist started all 14 games and guided the Hawks back to the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship while becoming the program's all-time leader in ground balls with 358 in his career. He ranked second nationally in faceoff winning percentage (.702) and third in ground balls per game (9.86), totaling 138 ground balls and 207 faceoff victories during the season.
Lemay earned First Team honors following a stellar sophomore campaign in which he totaled 54 points on 33 goals and 21 assists while recording multiple points in every game played. The attackman posted six games with at least five points, including a six-point outing against Bentley University on Mar. 4 and a five-goal effort versus Pace University on Apr. 18. Lemay also secured USA Lacrosse Magazine Second Team All-America recognition and USILA First Team All-North Region accolades.
Turpin put together a breakout season at attack, registering 63 points on 47 goals and 16 assists while posting three games with eight or more points. He recorded a pair of nine-point performances against Franklin Pierce University and Assumption University in March and was recognized as a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention and USILA Second Team All-North Region selection.
O'Brien earned a spot on the First Team after producing 26 points on 21 goals and five assists as a midfielder. He tallied at least one point in 13 of his 14 appearances and recorded hat tricks against Bentley and Franklin Pierce. O'Brien also collected USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention honors and USILA Third Team All-North Region recognition.
Lucas secured First Team honors following a standout season anchoring the Saint Anselm defense. The sophomore totaled 22 ground balls and nine caused turnovers over 14 contests while adding one goal and two assists offensively. He was also named to the USILA All-North Region Second Team.
Crowley rounded out the Hawks' First Team selections after excelling as a short-stick defensive midfielder. The senior posted 31 ground balls and five caused turnovers across 14 games, collecting multiple ground balls in 10 contests. Crowley also garnered USA Lacrosse Magazine Third Team All-America honors and USILA Second Team All-North Region recognition.
Boyle earned Second Team All-New England honors after another productive season on the offensive end for the Hawks. He finished the season with 32 points on 23 goals and nine assists across 14 games played. The attackman recorded points in 13 contests and posted nine multi-point performances, highlighted by a four-point outing against Saint Michael's College on Apr. 1 and three-goal performances against Mercy College and American International College. Boyle also totaled 45 shots on goal with a .529 shot-on-goal percentage
Klepacki collected Second Team honors following a strong campaign on defense in which he recorded 31 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers over 14 games played. The junior also earned USILA All-North Region Honorable Mention recognition after posting multiple strong performances late in the season, including a six-ground ball effort against Saint Michael's in the NCAA Tournament.
