Softball Trades NE10 Wins with Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College softball team split a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader with Saint Michael's College, earning a 6-3 victory in game one before falling 3-2 in the nightcap on Wednesday afternoon at Doc Jacobs Field.

Game 1: Saint Anselm 6 (19-24, 11-16 NE10), Saint Michael's 3 (7-28, 5-20 NE10)
 
Highlights 
  • Senior Kendra Lee improved to 9-10 in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing 10 hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts.
  • Senior Rose Reitmeyer led the offense, going 3-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.
  • Junior Brooke Tardugno finished 2-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
  • Junior Caitlyn Duquette went 1-4 with one RBI, while sophomore Alexa Salafia added a 1-3 performance with a walk and one RBI.
  • Sophomore Katie Fox drew a walk and scored once, while senior Madeline Trisket walked and scored a run.
  • Junior Abby Wrinn went 1-3 with a walk and one RBI, while junior Sarah Cipriani finished 1-3 with one RBI.
How it Happened
The Hawks struck first in the opening inning as Tardugno singled, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI double from Reitmeyer.
 
Saint Anselm added two more runs in the third as Wrinn and Cipriani delivered RBI singles to extend the lead to 3-0.
 
After Saint Michael's got on the board in the bottom half, the Hawks responded with a three-run fourth inning. Reitmeyer drove in a run with a single before Duquette and Salafia followed with RBI base hits to push the advantage to 6-1.
 
The Purple Knights chipped away with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but Lee worked through late traffic to secure the complete game victory.

Game 2: Saint Michael's 3 (8-28, 6-20 NE10), Saint Anselm 2 (19-25, 11-17 NE10)
 
Highlights 
  • Saint Anselm is now 70-25 all-time against Saint Michael's after splitting today's doubleheader.
  • Junior Mackenzie Bergen took the loss, falling to 7-6, allowing seven hits and three runs over six innings with five strikeouts.
  • Reitmeyer went 2-3 with a double, one RBI, one run scored, and a walk.
  • Tardugno finished 2-4 with a double, one run scored, and a stolen base.
  • Duquette went 1-4 with one RBI, and Wrinn recorded a double, going 1-4.
  • Trisket was a perfect 2-2 with a walk and a stolen base.
How it Happened
Saint Michael's struck first in the second inning with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Hawks answered in the third, scoring two runs on RBI hits from Reitmeyer and Duquette to take a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Purple Knights responded in the bottom half, plating two runs on a two-run double to regain the lead at 3-2.
 
Saint Anselm threatened in the later innings, putting runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh, but was unable to push the equalizer across.
 
Saint Michael's held on over the final inning to secure the 3-2 victory and split the doubleheader.
