WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – In the first ever meeting between the Bears and the Hawks, No. 20 Kutztown University used an 11-goal second half to pull away from the No. 22 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team, 21-15, on Thursday afternoon at the USJ Lacrosse Field.
Highlights
- Junior Alyssa Hill paced the offense with a seven-point performance, scoring two goals and adding five assists.
- Sophomore Ayla McDermod registered two goals and three assists to finish with five points in the setback. She also posted a team-high six draw controls.
- Junior Julia Rowley scored four goals while freshman Kendall Herrick posted a hat trick performance.
- Junior Lucy Mawn registered three points, scoring one goal and two assists.
- Freshman Kate Conover registered the first two collegiate goals of her career.
- Brianna Fruci notched the first goal of her senior campaign.
- Junior Aiko Fujita made nine saves in goal.
- Nine separate Hawks were credited with a caused turnover while four players each scooped up a pair of ground balls.
- Saint Anselm was successful on nine of its 13 clear attempts (69.2%) while limiting the Bears to a 8-for-17 (47.1%) showing.
How it Happened
A back-and-forth first half yielded a 10-10 score at halftime as Conover and Herrick scored a pair of goals in the opening 30 minutes for the Hawks.
Coming out of the break, Kutztown scored three straight goals to take its largest lead at that point, 13-10. Despite scoring four goals in the fourth quarter, the Hawks allowed seven tallies as the Bears pulled away with the 21-15 victory, handing the Hawks their first loss of the 2025-26 campaign.
