No. 22 Women's Lacrosse Makes History in Home Opening Victory Against Felician

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Spurred by 16 different goal scorers, the No. 22 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team won its home opening contest against Felician University by a final score of 25-0 on Monday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks set a new program record with 25 goals scored, marking the highest single-game scoring output in program history, while also notching first shutout in the program's 26-year history.

Highlights 

  • Junior Alyssa Hill posted three goals and three assists for six points while notching her 100th career point in the process.
  • Junior Julia Rowley posted a hat trick on just three shots on goal.
  • Senior captain Brianna Fruci was all over the stat sheet recording one goal and a pair of assists along with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
  • Five Hawks recorded their first collegiate goals in the win; Brooke O'Brien (2), Maddie Dugan, Ava Lombardi, Ariana Nikolis (2), and Sabrina Hill.
  • Sophomore Aiko Fujita (4) and junior Madelin Dunbar (1) combined for five saves in the shutout.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Felician, 44-6, including a 36-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Hawks were perfect on clearing attempts going 12-for-12 (100%), while holding Felician to 9-for-16 (56.3%) on clears.
  • Saint Anselm controlled possession throughout the game, winning the draw control battle, 19-7.
  • The Hawks also led in ground balls, 20-6, and forced 18 Felician turnovers while committing just nine of their own.

How it Happened 

The scoring opened with three straight goals from Rowley in the opening 8:44 of action. By halftime, both Rowley and Hill had recorded hat tricks as the Hawks were comfortably in the lead, 16-0. Fujita made four saves in the opening 30 minutes to keep the Golden Falcons off the board.

The Hawks made a goalie change to start the second half, bringing in Dunbar who posted one stop to keep the clean sheet intact. The Hawks tallied four goals in the third quarter and their final five in the fourth quarter to improve to 2-1 on the campaign.

The Hawks (2-1) will play host to No. 12 Pace University (2-1) on Thursday, March 12 in a 4 p.m. clash at Grappone Stadium.
