WALTHAM, Mass. – In a midweek non-conference clash against No. 10 Bentley University, the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team, ranked third in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Poll, outpaced the Falcons en route to a 10-6 victory on Wednesday night at Peter Yetten Field.
Highlights
- Sophomore Matt Lemay posted a team-high six points on a three-goal, three-assist output while classmate Eddie O'Brien also recorded his second career hat trick.
- Junior Mark Boyle assisted the scoring effort with two goals.
- Senior Quinn Gannon (one goal), sophomore Ben Turpin (one goal), and junior Nathan Alberti (one assist) each notched one point in the triumph.
- Gannon registered a team-best four ground balls, followed by junior Jake Kelpacki with three.
- Senior Tyler Vigeant and sophomores Max Fowler and Johnny Lucas each scooped up a pair of ground balls.
- Junior Thomas Driscoll registered a team-best two caused turnovers.
- Junior goalkeeper Finn Granara made 10 saves on 16 shots as the Hawks outshot the Falcons, 17-16.
- Saint Anselm went 1-for-3 (33.3%) on extra man opportunities.
- The Hawks are now 18-20 against Bentley in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1994 season. With the victory, the Hawks have won their last seven matchups with the Falcons, including two in Waltham.
How it Happened
The Falcons got on the board first, scoring 1:05 into the opening frame. Saint Anselm outscored Bentley, 3-1, in the final 12:13 of the first quarter with Lemay scoring twice in that span, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.
Gannon started the second quarter with a bang, winning the opening faceoff and burying a shot to increase the Hawks' advantage to two goals. Turpin found twine 5:31 later on a feed from Alberti to make it 5-2.
Bentley scored its lone goal of the second quarter with 3:42 left before halftime to send the teams into the break with Saint Anselm holding a two-goal lead.
O'Brien recorded the single goal scored in the third quarter on an unassisted try to boost the Hawks' lead back to three goals.
Two straight Saint Anselm goals to open the fourth were countered by a pair of Bentley goals, making it 8-5 with 10:55 left in regulation. Lemay finished off his hat trick with 7:12 to play to increase the Hawks' lead to four before Boyle scored his second of the night less than two minutes later to make it 10-5. The Falcons capped off the scoring with a man-up goal coming with 3:40 to play, but would not put another shot on target for the rest of the contest as the Hawks moved on to start 2-0.

The Hawks (2-0) will head to Rockville Center, N.Y. on Saturday, March 7 to face No. 12 Molloy University (3-1) in their second consecutive ranked matchup. A start time of 12:00 p.m. is scheduled from the RVC Sports Complex.
