MANCHESTER, N.H. – Five goals coming from junior Lucy Mawn and sophomore Ayla McDermod helped the No. 22 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team earn a Northeast 10 Conference victory over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium as the Hawks came away with an 18-13 victory.
Prior to the contest, the nine members of the senior class were honored during a pregame ceremony.
Highlights
- Junior Alyssa Hill led all Hawks with seven points coming off two goals and five assists. She added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Mawn, along with her career-high of five goals, led Saint Anselm with eight draw controls while also causing three turnovers and securing one ground ball.
- McDermod had five draw controls to match her five goals. She also scooped up four ground balls and added one caused turnover.
- Senior Brianna Fruci and junior Julia Rowley each scored a pair of goals. Fruci added one assist.
- Senior Lucy Davis and freshman Kendall Herrick had one goal apiece.
- Senior Elyse Scales recorded a team-best four caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Devan Spinale notched three ground balls.
- Sophomore goalie Aiko Fujita made 11 saves in between the pipes.
- Saint Anselm narrowly outshot Bentley in shots on target, 20-19 and committed two less turnovers than the Falcons.
- The Hawks went 15-for-20 (75.0%) on clears.
- Saint Anselm went a perfect 4-for-4 (100.0%) on free-position shots.
How it Happened
Fruci and Mawn notched man-up and man-down goals, respectively, in the opening 4:02 of action to put the Hawks up by a pair.
Bentley responded with a pair of goals to tie the game before the Hawks scored four of the game's next five goals to take a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After scoring twice in the first quarter, McDermod secured her hat trick 1:06 into the second on an unassisted tally before Mawn added her second of the day with 5:33 left in the half to increase Saint Anselm's advantage to 8-3. Bentley added two additional goals around a Rowley strike to cut the deficit to four goals at halftime, with the Hawks in front by a score of 9-5.
Saint Anselm and Bentley each scored five goals in the third quarter with Mawns, Rowley, Hill, McDermod and Fruci finding the back of the net for the Hawks to make it 14-10 after 45 minutes of play.
The Hawks grew their lead to six with goals from Mawn and McDermod in the opening 4:09 of the fourth quarter before Bentley rattled off two in a row on back-to-back man-up goals to make it 16-12 with 7:26 to play. Mawn secured her fifth and final goal of the evening with a man-down goal on an assist from Hill before Hill scored an unassisted goal with 4:54 remaining in regulation to make it 18-12. A Bentley goal in the final minute wrapped up the scoring as the Hawks secured their sixth victory of the season and second straight in NE10 play.

The Hawks (6-3, 2-1 NE10) will host nationally-ranked Adelphi University (5-4, 5-0 NE10) on Tuesday, March 31. The game will serve as the Morgan's Message and Head Game Project Game. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. at Grappone Stadium.
