WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College softball team split a pair of Northeast 10 Conference games at Marois Field at Assumption University, falling 9-8 in 10 innings in the first game, before winning the second game, 7-4, on Thursday.
Game 1: Assumption 9 (7-11, 2-1 NE10), Saint Anselm 8 (9-10, 1-2 NE10) - 10 inn.

- Saint Anselm drops to 44-56 all-time against Assumption, and the Hawks fall to 9-10 on the year with a 1-2 mark in NE10 play.

How it Happened
The Greyhounds had two singles and drew two walks in the first inning, ending the frame with a 3-0 lead.
Tardugno and Reitmeyer rattled off back-to-back hits to get the Hawks on the board in the top of the fourth as Saint Anselm trailed 3-1. The Hawks' offense exploded for five runs in the fifth, all coming with two outs, as Saint Anselm used four singles and four walks to take a 6-3 lead.
Assumption had a quick response, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game, 6-5. After a single and a stolen base from Tardugno, the senior speedster came around to score on a throwing error as the Hawks led by two, 7-5, going into the bottom of the sixth.
With runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth, Assumption had both runners come across to tie the score at 7-7 after a misplay in right field by the Hawks. Both teams failed to score in the seventh as they went to extra innings, and the next run didn't come until a sacrifice fly from Wotkowicz put Saint Anselm up 8-7 in the top of the tenth.
An RBI single early in the bottom of the 10th plated the automatic base runner to tie the score at 8-8 for the Greyhounds, and Assumption was able to walk it off with another single followed by a throwing error that allowed the winning run to score.
Game 2: Saint Anselm 7 (10-10, 2-2 NE10), Assumption 4 (7-12, 2-2 NE10)

- Saint Anselm improves to 45-56 all-time against Assumption as the Hawks improve to 10-10 on the year with a 2-2 mark in NE10 play.
- Junior Mackenzie Bergen started game two for the Hawks, pitching all seven innings for her third complete game of the season, improving to 3-1 after allowing nine hits but just two earned runs with one strikeout.
- Reitmeyer, Duquette, and Salafia all posted two-hit games with Duquette recording the only extra-base hit for the Hawks. Duquette and Salafia both had a run batted in, while Cipriani had two runs batted in despite going hitless.
- Junior Abby Wrinn and sophomore Zaynah Wotkowicz both went 1-4 with singles and a run batted in, while junior Madeline Trisket went 1-3 with a single in the win.
How it Happened
The Hawks loaded the bases early in the first, with all three runs coming across to score to give Saint Anselm an early 3-0 lead. Duquette lifted a double to deep left field to plate another run in the second, eventually coming across to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Cipriani as the Hawks led 5-0 after two.
The Greyhounds began to chip away, scoring once in the second before scoring two more runs in the third after a throwing error by the Hawks' catcher. Salafia helped the Hawks answer with an RBI single in the fourth, eventually scoring on a grounder in the infield to make it 7-3.
Assumption scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, making it 7-4, but Bergen closed out the win and the complete game in the seventh as the Hawks and Greyhounds split another doubleheader and the regular season series.
