Reitmeyer Sets Program Record with Three-Homer Game as Softball Splits Space Coast Games Finale

MELBOURNE, Fla.  – Senior Rose Reitmeyer launched three home runs in the Saint Anselm College softball team's 6-3 win over Wayne State (Mich.), becoming the first Hawk to do so in the program's 45-year history. Saint Anselm dropped its second game to Lewis University, 8-4, on the fifth and final day of the Space Coast Games on Tuesday.

Highlights 
  • Saint Anselm improves to 3-0 all-time against Wayne State, putting together its longest win streak of the season, three games, to improve to 8-7.
  • Reitmeyer went 3-4 with three home runs, three runs scored, and four runs batted in, becoming the first Hawk in program history to hit three in a single game. Reitmeyer leads the team with six home runs and 14 RBI this season, with an impressive 1.146 OPS (on-base plus slugging).
  • Junior Abby Wrinn hit her first home run as a Hawk, the second of her career, going 2-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk drawn.
  • Sophomore Katie Fox had a 2-4 day with a double, and senior Brooke Tardugno stole three bases, a single-game season-high, going 1-3 with a run scored.
  • Junior Kendra Lee made her seventh start of the season and improved to 5-3 after pitching four innings, allowing six hits without giving up a run.
  • Junior Mackenzie Bergen pitched the final three innings, picking up her first save of the season, allowing five hits and two earned runs with a strikeout.
How it Happened
Reitmeyer hit her first homer in the first inning, a solo shot to left center to put the Hawks up, 1-0. With Lee dominating in the circle, the Hawks added to their lead in the fourth when Wrinn launched a two-run homer over the left field fence to make it 3-0.
 
Reitmeyer hit her second solo home run of the game in the top of the fifth, and Wayne State came within a run of the Hawks in the bottom of the sixth, stringing together three hits and three runs as the score stood at 4-3 heading into the seventh.
 
Reitmeyer's third home run of the game came with a runner on third, adding two runs to the Saint Anselm lead, 6-3. Bergen closed out the win as the Warriors left two runners stranded in the bottom of the seventh.

Highlights 
  • Saint Anselm falls to 0-2 against Lewis University all-time, as the Hawks sit at 8-8 on the year.
  • Tardugno had another two stolen bases, reaching base three times with a pair of singles and a walk drawn, scoring twice. Tardugno is 13-13 on stolen base attempts this season.
  • Freshman Kierra Souphakhot got the start, falling to 1-2 on the year after giving up five runs in two innings of work.
  • Sophomore Alexa Salafia pitched 1.1 innings, giving up three runs, before Lee finished strong for the Hawks, hurling 3.2 shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Junior Sarah Cipriani went 2-3 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in.
  • Salafia and junior Caitlyn Duquette both went 1-3 with singles, a run scored, and a run batted in.
  • Wrinn reached base twice in her two at-bats, tallying a single and a walk.
How it Happened
Lewis opened the scoring at the top of the second, as five hits and a walk led to five runs for the Flyers. Lewis added three more runs in the fourth to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
 
Saint Anselm was one out away from falling in five innings, but the Hawks began to rally with RBI singles from Salafia and Duquette, followed by an RBI double from Cipriani, all with two outs, to make the score 8-3.
 
Tardugno led off the seventh with a walk and stole two bases before coming in to score on a groundout to make it 8-4, but that was the final run of the game as Saint Anselm fell to Lewis, 8-4.
