MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College softball team dropped games to Molloy, 5-1, and Minnesota State Mankato, 11-5, on the third day of action at the Space Coast Complex on Saturday.
Game 1: Molloy 5, Saint Anselm 1
Highlights
- Saint Anselm falls to 5-4 all-time against Molloy after beating the Lions twice a season ago at the 2025 Space Coast Games.
- Junior Sarah Cipriani had a two-hit day with a pair of singles and a stolen base while classmate Caitlyn Duquette recorded the lone extra-base hit of the day for the Hawks, going 1-2 with a double.
- Seniors Brooke Tardugno and Rose Reitmeyer had one base hit and one steal base each.
- Senior Lily Mason scored the lone run of the day, reaching base after drawing a walk.
- Sophomore Alexa Salafia drops to 0-2 in the circle this season, pitching four strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run with a strikeout.
- Junior Mackenzie Bergen hurled two innings in relief of Salafia, giving up six hits and three runs despite none of the runs being earned.
How it Happened
Mason got on base with a leadoff walk in the top of the third, eventually getting into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by Tardugno. After tagging up to third on a foul out to right field, Mason scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead.
Saint Anselm held Molloy scoreless until the fifth inning as an RBI triple tied things up at 1-1, followed by a pair of two-RBI singles as the Lions took a 5-1 lead.
Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the game, and Molloy came out on top, 5-1.
Game 2: Minnesota State 11, Saint Anselm 5
Highlights
- Saint Anselm is now 0-3 all-time against Minnesota State Mankato, and the Hawks have dropped their last five games, falling to 5-7 on the year.
- Reitmeyer continued her strong play, driving in two runs as she hit her third homer of the season and is now on a three-game hitting streak.
- Tardugno had an excellent day at the plate, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and a run batted in.
- Junior Madeline Trisket got on base twice, hitting a single and drawing a walk to go with a stolen base and a run scored.
- Sophomore Zaynah Wotkowicz had a base hit and drove in a run while classmate Katie Fox reached base twice with a walk and a single, scoring once.
- Junior Kendra Lee got the start, falling to 3-3 as she gave up eight runs and 10 hits.
- Bergen came in the game in relief, going 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs with a strikeout.
How it Happened
Minnesota State came out of the dugout with the bats ready to go, hitting two home runs in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Reitmeyer responded in the bottom half of the innings, hitting a two-run blast to left after Tardugno led off with a single to make it 3-2.
The Mavericks hit their third homer of the game in the second to plate two more runs, before adding three more in the inning as they led 8-2. An RBI double from Tardugno and a sacrifice fly from Salafia trimmed the Hawks' deficit to four, 8-4, but Minnesota State continued to answer, scoring three more times compared to just one for Saint Anselm to secure the 11-5 win.
