STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Saint Anselm College Baseball team dropped both games of Saturdays's doubleheader on the road against East Stroudsburg University to move to 1-3 on the season. The Hawks fell in the first contest, 17-2, and were unable to get the bats going in game two, losing 3-0.
GAME 1 – East Stroudsburg 17 (5-5), Saint Anselm 2 (1-2)
Highlights
- The Hawks fell in a hole early after surrendering six runs in the first inning and were unable to keep pace with a red-hot Warriors lineup.
- Saint Anselm's two runs came from a George Slauson home run in the fourth inning and a Mavrick Bourdeau RBI single in the fifth that drove home Coleson Kaluza, who got on base with a double earlier that inning.
How it Happened
The Hawks faced an offensive onslaught from East Stroudsburg early on, giving up six runs after being unable to capitalize with a runner on third in the top of the first. Another burst from the Warriors in the third inning saw the Hawks down 13-0 before a George Slauson solo homer put Saint Anselm on the board.
Saint Anselm would tally one more run after Bordeau knocked home Kaluza on a fielder's choice but would remain down for the rest of the contest, losing with a final score of 17-2.
GAME 2 – East Stroudsburg 3 (6-5), Saint Anselm 0 (1-3)
Highlights
- The Hawks offense struggled to get the bats moving, but junior Mavrick Bordeau was a lone bright spot, logging two hits (both singles) in three at-bats.
- Freshman pitcher Preston Cote had a solid outing on the mound, recording five strikeouts in four innings for his collegiate debut.
- Sophomore Jake Boudreau was also solid in relief for Cote, only allowing two hits and logging two strikeouts in two innings pitched.
- With two losses on the day, the Hawks move to 4-17 all-time against the Warriors in a series going back to 2018.
How it Happened
The Hawks had a promising start to game two, with Mavrick Bourdeau reaching third base off George Slauson single. However, Saint Anselm was unable to capitalize and left the top of the first with two runners in scoring position.
The remainder of the contest saw the Hawks unable to build momentum on offense, and after surrendering runs to East Stroudsburg in the first, second, and third innings, were unable to find the equalizer and closed out their doubleheader with a 3-0 loss.
