Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Ice Hockey Completes Third-Period Comeback to Down Post on Senior Day

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors John Myers and Garrett Alberti scored twice in a span of 32 seconds in the third period to boost the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Northeast 10 Conference foe Post University on Senior Day at Sullivan Arena.

The Hawks finished the season with an 11-7-2 record against conference opponents, earning the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NE10 Championship, which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Highlights

  • Myers and Alberti recorded the Hawks third-period goals while senior Cam Collins recorded an assist.
  • Also posting assists in the triumph were freshmen Nolan King and Sean Connolly and sophomore Justin Tremblay.
  • Sophomore Brendan Manning went 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the faceoff dot as the Hawks went 32-for-59 (54.2%) collectively.
  • Senior Michael Martignetti recorded a team-high four blocked shots.
  • Tucker Hanson posted 24 stops in between the pipes in the final regular-season contest of his career.
  • Saint Anselm now holds a 21-5-1 record against the Eagles in the all-time series, dating back to the 2017-18 season. This year, Saint Anselm went 3-1-0 against Post with three wins coming at the friendly confines of Sullivan Arena.

How it Happened

Post's Matteo Peca scored the game's first goal 6:37 into the opening period, firing in a wrist shot on an odd-man opportunity.

Saint Anselm's power play unit found the back of the net with 4:21 remaining in regulation as Tremblay's pass met Myers at the back door for a tap-in goal, tying the contest at one. The Hawks struck again 32 seconds later as Alberti scored on a one-time feed from Connolly, scoring the eventual game-winning goal.

Up Next

The Hawks (12-13-4), the No. 3 seed in the NE10 Tournament, will play host to cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University (9-16-1), the No. 6 seed, in a first-round matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Sullivan Arena. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 p.m.
