Six Hawks Score in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Defeats Franklin Pierce, 95-84

MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team defended home court in a 95-84 win over Franklin Pierce University at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Saturday.
 
Highlights 
  • This marked the 69th all-time meeting between the Hawks and Ravens as Saint Anselm improves to 48-21 in the series that began in 1984.
  • The first-place Hawks improved to 12-3 in NE10 action with a 19-6 record overall.
  • Senior Josh Morissette scored 24 points, knocking down eight of his 12 shot attempts, including a 5-7 clip from long range with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
  • Sophomore Isaiah Griffin finished the day with 17 points on an efficient 7-8 shooting clip from the field and a 3-4 mark from deep, also tallying four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
  • Freshman Edward Onyia scored 15 points with seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, while sophomore Will Davies had 14 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two blocks.
  • Sophomore Jovan Ristic recorded his team-best 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, tied for the fifth most double-doubles in all of Division II.
  • Junior Jack Medalie tallied 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Ravens 41-34 and had 21 assists compared to just 11 for Franklin Pierce.
How it Happened
 
In a back-and-forth start to the game, Franklin Pierce held a slight edge, 14-12, but Davies scored seven of the next 10 points for the Hawks, sparking a 10-2 run as Saint Anselm led by six, 22-16.
 
The Ravens continued to keep things close, but Morissette ended the half with a pair of threes as Saint Anselm made six of its final seven three-point attempts to fuel an eight-point lead, 48-40, at the half.
 
Franklin Pierce erased its eight-point deficit early in the second, pulling within one, 56-55. Griffin started adding to the Hawks' lead, converting on a pair of layups followed by a three-pointer on the break to put Saint Anselm back up by eight, 66-58.
 
Griffin sank another bucket from long range, pushing the Hawks' lead to 10, 80-70, and Saint Anselm led the rest of the way, securing the win, 95-84.
