Men’s Soccer Blanks Assumption, 3-0, Behind Prouty Hat Trick

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Chance Prouty scored all three goals for the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team, recording his first career hat trick as the Hawks defeated Assumption University, 3-0, in Northeast 10 Conference action on Wednesday at Melucci Field.

Prouty scored twice in a 27-second span during the first half before completing his hat trick in the 84th minute. He became the first Saint Anselm men's soccer player to record a hat trick since Michael Budrewicz scored three times against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sept. 7, 2019.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Saint Anselm, while graduate goalkeeper David Hood made two saves for the Hawks' first shutout since a 1-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Sept. 3.

Highlights

  • Prouty recorded his first career hat trick, scoring three goals on six shots with four shots on goal.
  • Prouty's three-goal performance marked the first hat trick by a Saint Anselm player since Budrewicz scored three times in a 5-3 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 7, 2019.
  • Junior Brian Jones recorded two assists.
  • Hood made two saves to preserve the shutout, while Saint Anselm held a 17-10 advantage in shots.
  • The win moved Saint Anselm to 41-19-5 all-time against Assumption and avenged a 6-2 non-conference loss to the Greyhounds on Sept. 12 in Worcester earlier this season.

How it Happened
Prouty opened the scoring in the 21st minute, chipping a long-range shot over the Assumption goalkeeper to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. Just 27 seconds later, Jones fired a shot off the post before Prouty collected the rebound and tapped it into the net to quickly double the Saint Anselm lead.

The Hawks carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Assumption by an 8-2 margin in the opening 45 minutes.

Hood made two saves in the second half to keep the Greyhounds off the scoreboard, including stops in the 61st and 79th minutes.

Prouty completed his hat trick in the 84th minute after Jones sent a long clearance up the field. Prouty collected the ball and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net to extend the Saint Anselm lead to 3-0. The Hawks held Assumption off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest to secure the shutout victory.
