Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 13 Franklin Pierce on Late Goal

RINDGE, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 13 Franklin Pierce University in Northeast 10 Conference action on Saturday at Sodexo Field.

The two sides remained scoreless for nearly 89 minutes before McKenna Maguire scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 remaining. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski finished with seven saves for the Hawks.

Highlights

  • Swidorski made seven saves in the contest, including five in the second half. 
  • Saint Anselm generated all eight of its shots in the second half, placing four on goal. 
  • The Hawks and Ravens each earned two corner kicks, with both of Saint Anselm's opportunities coming after halftime.
How it Happened
The opening half remained scoreless as Franklin Pierce produced all three shots. Swidorski turned aside the Ravens' two shots on goal, making saves in the sixth and 10th minutes to keep the contest even through halftime. 

Saint Anselm created its first threatening opportunity in the 52nd minute. Junior Amarys Jimenez put a shot on frame that was stopped by LaCroix, but the rebound fell to sophomore Addison Jerome, whose follow-up attempt went just wide. 

Freshman Bianca Maciel generated another opportunity for the Hawks in the 75th minute, sending an attempt toward goal that was blocked away by a Franklin Pierce defender. 

The Hawks continued to pressure late in the second half. Junior Meghan Deneen forced a save from LaCroix in the 79th minute before sophomore Madison Botta put another shot on goal less than 20 seconds later. Freshman Makenna Snow added another attempt on frame in the 84th minute, but LaCroix kept the match scoreless.

Franklin Pierce broke through with 1:07 remaining. Kaitlyn Bautista sent a shot on frame that forced a save from Swidorski, with the rebound falling to Maguire for the game-winning goal at the 88:53 mark.
