NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Senior libero Madeline Burke earned her first Northeast 10 Conference weekly award of the season, and second of her career, being named Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Burke's outstanding week was highlighted by her record-breaking performance at Franklin Pierce in a five-set win on the road in an NE10 matchup against the Ravens. Burke was all over the court, defending at an extraordinary level as she recorded 43 digs.

Her 43 digs sit atop the NE10 as the most in a match this season and the mark also broke the program record for digs in a five-set match, which was previously held by Kristine Howell '02 who notched 41 digs in a 3-2 win over American International College in the 1999 campaign.

In the Hawks 3-0 setback against Bentley on Saturday, Burke posted a team-high 13 digs. For the week, Burke averaged seven digs per set. Burke also had 24 receptions over the course of both matches the Hawks had, good for three per set.

The Hawks had a 1-1 week of conference play, as they are now 12-8 on the year with a 2-4 record in NE10 action. The Hawks continue their conference slate with a match at Andrew Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. against Assumption University (6-15, 2-4 NE10).
