Women’s Basketball Drops Crosstown Matchup at Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 75-56, at Stan Spirou Field House in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup.

Highlights
  • This was the 80th all-time meeting between the Hawks and Penmen, with Saint Anselm falling to 54-26 in the series that began in 1977.
  • The Hawks fall to 7-3 on the year with a 2-3 mark in NE10 play.
  • Junior Elise MacNair led Saint Anselm with 18 points, six rebounds, two steals, and a block.
  • Senior Tatum Forbes tallied 15 points with six rebounds and three assists and junior Meghan Trapper scored nine points with two rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
How it Happened

Both teams went scoreless for the first three minutes of action until a Forbes layup and a Penmen layup got the NE10 opponents on the board. The score remained tied, 7-7, until an SNHU three-pointer put them in front, 10-7. Saint Anselm answered with a 7-0 run with Nelson knocking down a corner three off a nice find from Forbes to cap it off. SNHU scored the final three points of the quarter, trailing by one going into the second, 14-13.

MacNair opened the second with a midrange jumper and a three-pointer as the Hawks led by four, 21-17, but the Penmen countered with 12 straight points to flip the lead, 29-21. SNHU's lead grew to as much as 14, but a late score for the Hawks made it 40-28 going into the break.

MacNair knocked down another three-pointer to start the second half, but Southern New Hampshire continued to make shots to stay in front by double digits, leading 51-36 halfway through the third. The Hawks trailed 59-46 heading into the fourth quarter.

Southern New Hampshire led for all of the fourth quarter, winning the game, 75-56.
