Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Falls at Stonehill in OT, 4-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Despite a two-goal effort from senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan, including a game-tying goal scored with 2:54 left in regulation, the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team fell to Stonehill College, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater Ice Arena in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance clash.

Highlights

  • Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan posted three points in the outing, including two goals. Her first-period tally was scored on the penalty kill, marking her fourth short-handed goal of the season. This tied the single-season program record as she leads the nation in the category.
  • Eden Granley scored her fifth goal of her sophomore season and finished with a +1 on-ice rating.
  • Sophomore Lucy DeCoteau went 13-of-25 (52.0%) on faceoffs and finished +2.
  • Junior Brenna Young and freshman Avery Wilson each led the team with two blocked shots.
  • Freshman netminder Kayla Czukoski made 50 saves in between the pipes.

How it Happened

Stonehill headed to the locker room with a 1-0 lead in hand following the opening 20 minutes of action as Summer Combe lit the lamp midway through the frame.

Saint Anselm got on the board 5:51 into the second as Schneiderhan scored an unassisted goal on the penalty kill to tie the score at 1-1. Sophomore Eden Granley followed that up by burying a loose puck in front of the net just over six minutes later to give the Hawks their first lead of the contest.

Trailing heading into the third, the Skyhawks used a pair of power plays to their advantage as Reagan Whynot scored back-to-back goals over the span of 4:34 to put the hosts back in front, 3-2.

With time winding down, Schneiderhan's second goal of the game would force overtime, as she fired home a shot into the top corner following a nifty move around a defender to tie the score once more.

Just 30 seconds into overtime, Stonehill's Maddison Achtyl found the back of the net to pick up the extra point.
