Women’s Ice Hockey Rolls to 5-0 Win at Saint Michael’s

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team exploded offensively in a 5-0 victory over Saint Michael's College on Friday night in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance matchup at Cairns Arena.

  • Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan tallied two goals, including a power play strike, and added an assist for a three-point night.
  • Sophomore Lucy DeCoteau also scored twice, finishing off a pair of Saint Anselm scoring bursts in the first and second periods.
  • Junior Brenna Young chipped in with a goal in the second period.
  • The Hawks dominated in shots on goal, 45-34, and controlled the pace throughout all three periods.
  • Goaltender Julia Matyas earned the shutout, the second of her sophomore season, stopping all 34 shots faced.

How It Happened

Saint Anselm jumped out early when sophomore Lucy DeCoteau opened the scoring midway through the first period, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead after one frame.

The offense continued to click in the second period as junior Brenna Young added an unassisted goal just 42 seconds in. Shortly after, senior Brooklyn Schneiderhan added a power play goal with helpers from freshman Grace Stirling and senior Cora Webber. DeCoteau then struck again in the period to give Saint Anselm a commanding 4-0 advantage heading to the third.

In the third period, Schneiderhan finished off the scoring with her second goal of the night, assisted by DeCoteau and sophomore Eden Granley, sealing the 5-0 shutout.
