MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 2 ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team earned its first win of the 2025 campaign at Grappone Stadium on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 8 Southern New Hampshire by a final score of 4-2.
For the Hawks and Penmen, this game served as a rematch of the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) Championship Semifinals. In the all-time series which includes 20 head-to-head matchups beginning in 2014, Saint Anselm holds an 18-2 all-time advantage.
The victory leveled out the Hawks' overall record at 1-1 while the Penmen dropped to 0-2.

How It Happened
Saint Anselm got on the board first with a goal scored by Marissa Politano at 6:58 in the first quarter off a penalty corner. Southern New Hampshire quickly evened the score with a goal from Minke van de Poll at 12:04, but the Hawks responded with a goal by Meghan Carey to take a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The Penmen evened the score 10:32 into the second quarter. Despite five shot attempts and two corners from the Hawks, the score remained knotted at 2-2 heading into the half.
The Hawks battled in the third quarter with seven shots and three penalty corners before Kelly Holmes found the back of the net with 1:40 left in the frame to regain the Hawks' lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Momentum from the third quarter continued for the Hawks at the start of the fourth quarter, with an insurance goal from Meghan Smith making it 4-2. The Hawks did not allow a single corner opportunity for the Penmen for the fourth quarter, while Saint Anselm earned two. The defense continued to shine for the Hawks in the fourth quarter as it allowed the Penmen one shot on goal.
