No. 9 Field Hockey Downs Saint Michael’s, 6-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team, fresh off its placement at No. 9 in the latest NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll, improved to 4-0 in Northeast 10 (NE10) conference play with a 6-0 victory over Saint Michael's College on Tuesday evening at Grappone Stadium.

How it Happened

Freshman Meghan Smith scored her fourth goal of the season with 5:17 left to play in the first to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. Just three minutes later, freshman Breanna Shorey scored her fourth goal of the season to give Saint Anselm a two-goal lead after the first frame.

Two minutes into the second quarter, senior Marissa Politano notched her fourth goal of the season, with an assist from sophomore Maggie McCready. With 4:20 remaining in the half, sophomore Leila Härtel registered her second goal of the season, assisted by Politano, giving the Hawks a four-goal edge at the break.

The Hawks had a quiet third despite eight shots and three penalty corners. Freshman Ayla Lagasse got the Hawks back on the board eight minutes into the fourth with an assist from McCready, marking her fourth assist of the campaign. Less than a minute later, sophomore Meghan Carey scored her fifth goal of the season, with an assist from Lagasse, the first of her collegiate career, sealing the victory for the Hawks with a final score of 6-0.
