MANSFIELD, Mass - For just the second time in program history, a member of the Saint Anselm College track & field team has earned a Northeast-10 (NE10) year-end major award. Freshman Logan Montgomery (Weare, N.H.) has been one of the fastest athletes on campus since his arrival on the Hilltop, and he was honored for his breakout outdoor campaign with the NE10 Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year award.
This marks Montgomery's second major award of the year—he also became the first in program history to receive a major NE10 honor when he was named Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year earlier this season.
Montgomery captured gold in the 400m at the NE10 Outdoor Championships, blazing to a winning time of 47.39—over a full second ahead of the nearest competitor. That mark also stood as the fastest 400m time in the NCAA Division II East Region this season.
He added two silver medals to his resume, placing second in the 200m with a final time of 21.51. He had previously posted a 21.38 in the prelims—the top 200m time in the East Region this year. Montgomery also anchored the Hawks' 4x400m relay squad, which claimed silver with a time of 3:17.61.
Though the 100m isn't his primary event, Montgomery made the most of his lone appearance in it this season—winning the event at the Merrimack College Alumni Classic with a blazing 10.54. That time was not only the fastest by a Saint Anselm runner this year, but also the best in the NE10 and the second-fastest in the East Region.
Montgomery has been turning heads in the New Hampshire track & field scene since his days at John Stark Regional High School, where he captured the NHIAA Division II title in the 400m with a time of 49.43. He set multiple school records for the Generals and was a standout multi-sport athlete, also competing on the varsity basketball and baseball teams.
While the collegiate season has wrapped, Montgomery's schedule is far from over. He's set to compete at the USA Track & Field U20 Championships, which begin June 19 in Eugene, Oregon. He qualified for the 400m with his 47.39 from the NE10 Championships and will have the chance to test himself against some of the fastest U20 runners in the country.
