CARY, NC – Saint Anselm men's baseball concluded their North Carolina trip with a 7-0 loss to Wilmington (D.E.). The Wildcats took control early, scoring five runs in the first three innings en route to the shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Wilmington wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Tristan Scho. Scho later came around to score on a passed ball, capping off a two-run opening inning.

The Wildcats added to their lead in the second when Brandon Gryg ripped an RBI double to left field.

The scoring continued in the third as Scho led off with a double and came around to score on another double by D'Angelo Pon. A sacrifice fly from Nick Classie added another run, extending Wilmington's lead to 5-0 after three innings..

After two scoreless frames, Wilmington tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth—a bases-loaded walk drawn by Chase Flemin and an RBI single from Scho.

The final three innings remained scoreless as Wilmington secured a 7-0 shutout victory.

Wilmington finished the game with seven hits, eight walks, and eight runners left on base, while Saint Anselm recorded five hits, six walks, and stranded 10.

Tyler Reinart earned the win for Wilmington, pitching five shutout innings with three strikeouts.

Freshman Jake Schoenberg (Holliston, Mass.) got the start for Saint Anselm, allowing two earned runs and seven baserunners over 1.1 innings.

Senior Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) and freshman Josh Bryant (Plymouth, Mass.) combined for 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two baserunners.

Sophomore Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) led the Hawks offensively, reaching base three times with two singles and a walk.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 2-0 all-time against Saint Anselm, having last defeated the Hawks 20-10 on March 3, 2020.
