CALDWELL, N.J. – Senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) of the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team has been named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East Region Player of the Year. Hoyt, who was recently named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) Player of the Year, also earned a spot on the D2CCA East Region First Team.

Hoyt becomes just the second student-athlete in program history to receive the East Region Player of the Year honor, joining Shannon Ryan '20. She is only the fourth Saint Anselm player to ever earn a spot on the East Region First Team. This achievement adds to her already impressive résumé for her senior season, which includes being named the NE10 Player of the Year and earning a spot on the All-NE10 First Team.

This season, Hoyt led the NE10 and is currently 33rd in all of NCAA Division II with 18.1 points per game. The forward also led the conference and ranks 14th nationally in field goal percentage, making her shots at a 55.9 percent clip, which is fourth-best in program history.

Additionally, Hoyt finished sixth in the league with 8.1 rebounds per contest and is eighth with a team-best 24 blocks in 28 games played. The four-time NE10 Player of the Week dished out 45 assists and grabbed 29 steals on the year as well, good for third and fourth on the team, respectively.

The Empire State native posted eight double-doubles on the year, had at least 10 points in 24 games, and had at least 20 points in 13 games. On November 13th, Hoyt set a new career-high with 31 points on 14-17 shooting in a 74-72 win over American International.

Hoyt is all over the Saint Anselm program record book. Her 1,368 career points rank 10th all-time, while her 559 made field goals rank ninth. Further, her career field goal percentage of .516 ranks second in team history. She has also recorded 95 blocks across her four seasons, good for sixth all-time.

Hoyt and Saint Anselm finished their season last weekend after being eliminated in the Second Round of the NCAA tournament after a tight contest with top-ranked Bentley. The Hawks defeated Southern Connecticut State in the First Round for their first NCAA postseason win since 2019. Hoyt was named to the All-East Region Tournament Team for her two performances, where she scored 37 points on 16-29 shooting (55.2 percent) and grabbed 23 rebounds.
