HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Andrew Chenevert (Dracut, Mass.) started the game on the mound for Saint Anselm. He did not allow a run in the first two innings and got himself out of a jam in the first by striking out a pair with runners in scoring position.
  • Franklin Pierce flipped the switch in the bottom of the third. Joey Acker, Kiobel Lugo, and Nolan DeAndrade blasted back-to-back-to-back home runs, which gave the Ravens a 4-0 edge.
  • The Ravens extended their lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single by Ivan Arias, pushing the advantage to six runs.
  • Franklin Pierce tacked on another run in the sixth when Lugo was caught in a rundown between first and second, allowing Acker to score from third.
  • Saint Anselm broke through in the top of the seventh as junior Ben Rose (Webster, N.H.) led off with a double. He later scored on an RBI single by sophomore Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.).
  • The Ravens responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Devin Kulas to restore the seven-run cushion.
  • The Hawks chipped away in the eighth, with sophomore Owen McCarron (Holliston, Mass.) delivering an RBI double. Junior Shea Howrigan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) followed that up with a run-scoring single that made it an 8-3 game.
  • Yet again, the Ravens had an answer, plating four more runs in the bottom of the frame via a wild pitch, two bases-loaded walks, and an RBI groundout from Brycen Tetler.
  • The Hawks put two runners on in the ninth, but failed to push across another run and ultimately fell on the road by a final score of 12-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Franklin Pierce finished the game with 12 runs on 10 hits and 12 walks while leaving nine runners on base.
  • Saint Anselm totaled three runs on 10 hits and four walks while stranding eight on the base paths.
