EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped both games of a road doubleheader against nationally ranked #19 East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The Warriors were able to generate early leads and limited opportunities on the bases for the Hawks, who scored just four runs in the 14 innings that were played.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- East Stroudsburg got runners on base early in the game via single and error before a sacrifice fly moved both runners into scoring position. With two outs in the inning, Parker Frey opened the scoring with a two-RBI single to right field that gave the Warriors the lead.
- After a pair of scoreless innings, the scoring resumed in the bottom of the fourth. East Stroudsburg was able to load the bases with one out, and Christian Maccarone and Francisco Taveras drew back-to-back walks to score a pair. Shanley Wall then brought two more runs across with a single, and a sacrifice fly by Dennis Pierce made it a five-run fourth inning as the Warriors extended their lead to 7-0.
- East Stroudsburg added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth off of an RBI single from Jack Rothenhausler, which made it 8-0 entering the final inning.
- Freshman Xavier Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn.) drew a leadoff walk for Saint Anselm to start the top of the seventh, and junior Ben Rose (Webster, N.H.) followed that up with a hard-hit single to left field. Both of them came around to score after a bases-clearing double from senior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.), but the Hawks were only able to score those two runs and ultimately fell by a final score of 8-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):
- Scolaro and sophomore Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) were the only two players in the game with an extra base hit for Saint Anselm.
- Freshman Casey DeLorenzo (East Greenwich, R.I.) pitched a scoreless fifth inning for the Hawks where he was able to fan two batters.
- Freshman Gabe Knudson (Hanover, Mass.) finished with 3.1 innings pitched for Saint Anselm while giving up four runs allowed and striking out five.
- The Hawks ended with three hits, six walks, and seven runners left on base. The Warriors had seven hits, four walks, and five men left on base.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- East Stroudsburg got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as Rothenhausler secured the go-ahead RBI with a sacrifice fly.
- The scoring continued for the Warriors as they loaded the bases and quickly emptied them off a sacrifice fly followed by a two-run single for Cameron Hubbard, which made it a 4-0 lead for the home team after two innings of play.
- The Hawks started to put the pressure on in the fifth inning as sophomore Austin Brune (Billerica Mass.) got on base after being hit by a pitch. Sophomore Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) then singled to advance Brune to second, and freshman George Slauson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored Brune with an RBI single to center field.
- The Hawks eventually loaded the bases in the same inning, but were unable to bring another run home as the deficit remained at three runs with the 4-1 score.
- East Stroudsburg once again found an insurance run in the sixth inning off an RBI single by Taveras, which gave the Warriors a 5-1 lead heading into the final frame.
- Saint Anselm got off to a good start with an opposite field single by sophomore Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) to start the seventh. Gonzalez advanced to third base, then came around to score courtesy of a sacrifice fly by sophomore Owen McCarron (Holliston, Mass.), but that was the last run of the game as the Hawks fell, 5-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2):
- Brendan Gonzalez led the way offensively for Saint Anselm with two hits and a run scored. He was the only player in the game with multiple hits.
- Junior Nolan Mederos (Nashua, N.H.) pitched three solid innings of relief for Saint Anselm with only one run and one hit allowed.
- The Hawks finished with six hits, four walks, and 10 left on base. The Warriors ended with four hits, six walks, and six left on base.
- These two games marked the 16th and 17th meetings between these two programs all-time. Saint Anselm falls to 3-14 against East Stroudsburg in the series that began in 2018. The Hawks have lost the last 12 games to the Warriors, with their last win coming on March 16th of 2019 when they won, 10-1.
