EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – Saint Anselm Baseball split their opening day results with Southern Connecticut State losing the first game by a 7-3 final and stumping the Owls in the second game 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- The home Warriors of East Stroudsburg struck first on Friday in the bottom of the first inning. The third batter of the inning, Pierce, earning a walk to get a runner onto the bases. A Rothenhausle double would push Pierce around the bases for the sole run of the inning. The Hawks would escape just allowing one run as Jared Reminder (Warwick, R.I) pitched into a ground-out play.
- East Stroudsburg continued to have success into the second inning of action as an error by the Hawks would allow a runner to reach first. The runner on first would quickly advance to third on back-to-back stolen bases against the Saint Anselm defense. A follow-up single from Reilly would push Zampella home giving the home team a 2-0 lead going into the third inning.
- Saint Anselm earned their two runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore Austin Brune (Billerica, Mass.) kick started the offensive flow with a single to center field followed by a Jackson Powers (Woburn, Mass.) single to right field, which allowed Brune to advance to third. A Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) sacrifice fly to right field allowed Brune to reach home on a tag up. Freshman George Slauson (Plymouth, Mass.) kept his bat hot hitting a deep ball to right field pushing Powers to third base. Senior Brenden Harris (Altamont, N.Y.) earned an RBI on a ground out to short stop as Powers would score, tying the game at two runs headed into the bottom of the inning.
- The winning run came in the bottom of the 5th inning as a pairing of a back-to-back double and single would push a the runner around the horn for a score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):
- Saint Anselm ended the game with two runs on five hits and had one registered error. East Stroudsburg recorded three runs on six hits and tabbed no errors. The Hawks left four runners on base while the Warriors left seven on the bags.
- For the Hawks, Brune went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of hits and one strikeout. Bourdeau went 0-2 but grabbed an RBI.
- Reminder went 3.2 innings on the mount giving up two runs on three hits while walking three batter and striking out just one.
- Freshman Josh Bryant (Plymouth, Mass.) pitched 2.1 innings for the Hawks allowing one run on three hits while facing ten batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Sophomore Austin Brune (Billerica, Mass.) kick started the second game of the day with a double, but the Hawks would be unable to convert with the runner in scoring position. In the bottom of the first East Stroudsburg would jump ahead to a 1-0 lead after a pair of runners reach the bags on a pair of walks, a single from Frey brought the first runner home. Senior Marko Gibbons (Delmar, N.Y.) managed to get Saint Anselm out of the inning with a strikeout as the final out.
- In the top of the fourth inning the Hawks would grab their first score of the second match set up by Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) double, which would push himself and Harris into scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Shea Howrigan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) allowed Harris to score before the Warriors ended the inning. East Stroudsburg responded with a single from Davis followed by a hit by pitch to push a runner into scoring position. A 2-RBI single from Wall allowed the home team to get back on top 3-1.
- Saint Anselm looked to reply in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Aidan Dow (Lynn, Mass.) led off the inning with a walk, then advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch. After a pair of outs George Slauson (Plymouth, Mass.) stepped into the batter's box and slung a deep fly ball for a 2-RBI triple.
- The Hawks continued to find success in the top of the sixth as Gonzalez kicked off the inning with a walk. He would move into scoring position on a Howrigan single up the middle. On a sacrifice ground out the runners would move to second and third base. Dow would rip a sacrifice fly to score the go ahead run. In the bottom of the inning the Warriors would find their own response as Taveras would snag a double. A follow-up ground out would allow the runner to advance to third. An RBI-single would tie the game at four runs apiece.
- Saint Anselm would go 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh a Zampella double set the home team up for a walk off win. The Warriors would go on to secure the walk-off on a Taveras single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2):
- Saint Anselm finished the game with four runs on six hits and committed one error. East Stroudsburg finished the game with five runs on nine hits and committed one error. The Hawks left six runners on base while the Warriors left nine stranded.
- Howrigan went 2-2 at the play with an RBI. Brune and Gonzalez each grabbed a double on the afternoon.
- Gibbons pitched 3.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five and walking two. Sophomore Cooper Hagen (Grand Rapids, Mich.) pitched 2.2 innings for the Hawks allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Sophomore Quinn MacDonald (Kennebunkport, ME) tabbed the lost with 0.2 innings pitch allowing one run on two hits.
