HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks scored the first bucket of the game on Saturday afternoon with senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) connecting in fast break with classmate Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.). Halfway through the first quarter Saint Anselm expanded their lead to eight points on a Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) made lay-up from Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.). The home team would push the game back within four but a final bucket from Hoyt to end the quarter would give the Hawks a six-point lead at the end of the first ten minutes.
  • The Setters would open the second quarter on a 4-0 run before a dagger three from Elise MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) would flip momentum back to Saint Anselm. Halfway through the second quarter the Hawks extended their lead back to double digits as Hoyt backed down her defender. Saint Anselm would be able to hold onto their double-digit lead going into halftime.
  • Forbes kickstarted scoring in the second half with a pull-up jumper in the paint off of a MacNair rebound. Hoyt and Forbes would exchange buckets to keep the Hawks ahead by 10 with 4:37 left in the quarter. Saint Anselm found their largest lead at 15 as MacNair caught heat from deep off of a feed from Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine). Pace would respond with a pair of deep range shots of their own to bring the game back within 10 going into the final quarter of play.
  • Four straight points from Sulikowski would push the Hawks back up by 12 with just under 8-minutes to play. The Setters applied some pressure bringing the score within eight on a pair of made free throws from Arianna Stockinger but a run ending jumper from Nelson would finalize the Hawks victory.
