HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm would tab the first bucket of action on Saturday with senior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) scoring on a driving attempt into the paint. The two teams would exchange buckets before the home team would take a 9-6 advantage on a Molly Stokes pull up jumper. Lemanski would keep the Hawks within five in the first quarter, but a final layup from the Greyhounds would keep their lead at 15-10 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
- Freshman Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) kick started the second quarter of play with a deep triple from teammate Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine). The Greyhounds would respond with their own pair of buckets before senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) capitalized off of an Elise MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) steal to bring the game within four. Halfway through the quarter Hoyt would bring the Hawks within a possession on a quick paced bucket in the paint. With three minutes remaining in play the Saint Anselm squad would tie the game at 21-apiece on a offensive rebound and score from Lemanski. The Hawks would find themselves in the lead once more off of a MacNair made jumper, but less than a minute later the Greyhounds would tie the game again. The quarter would come to an end with a 26-25 Assumption lead going into halftime.
- Coming out of the halftime break the Hawks would make a quick statement as a strong and one take from Hoyt would push the Greyhounds into an early timeout to reorganize themselves. Coming out of the timeout the teams would exchange buckets as Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) would cash in from the elbow and Stokes would get to the rim for Assumption. Halfway through the third quarter Hoyt would continue to shine for the Hawks scoring her 15th point in the competition on a pull up jumper in the paint to give Saint Anselm a 34-31 lead. Saint Anselm would extend their lead to six as a slew of trips to the charity stripe would give the 39-33 cushion. As the quarter would come to a close the Hawks would continue to apply pressure and bring their lead to 41-33 off of another Forbes made jumper.
- The home team would battle back to start the fourth quarter bringing the game within six but another solid post move from Hoyt would keep them at an eight-point difference. Halfway through the final quarter of play the Greyhounds found some momentum with a made triple from Stokes. Stokes would bring the home team within two but a pair of free throws from Forbes would put it back at a two-possession game. With three seconds to play Marina Callahan would cut the lead to four, but another made free throw from Forbes would finalize the Hawks win.
