SHELTON, Conn. – Four separate Hawks recorded goals as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team skated past New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) foe, Post University, 4-2, in the opening game of a weekend series on Friday night at the Sports Center of Connecticut.

Highlights

  • Four separate Hawks posted goals while junior Alexis Poppleton led the team in points with two assists.
  • Sophomore Eden Granley went 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the faceoff dot.
  • Seniors Cora Webber and Ella Ridge notched a team-high two blocked shots along with freshman Lauren Waldo.
  • Freshman Kayla Czukoski made 55 saves in her sixth victory of the campaign.
  • The Hawks were a perfect 2-for-2 (100%) on the power play, while their penalty kill allowed just one goal on three Post extra-skater opportunities.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission as freshman Lauren Waldo and senior captain Cora Webber found the back of the net on power play opportunities.

The Hawks would go up 3-0 just 3:38 into the second period as senior captain Mackenzie Moss tacked on her second goal of the season.

The Eagles got on the board with 7:33 left to play in the third period to cut the deficit to two goals, but the Hawks would respond 45 seconds later as senior Sydney Merritt posted her first of the year to regain the Hawks' three-goal lead. Post would strike last to make it 4-2 as Jet Devlin scored on the power play.
