#17 Women’s Soccer Claims NE10 Regular Season Title, Ties Southern New Hampshire, 1-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team tied Southern New Hampshire University, 1-1, at Melucci Field on Wednesday, closing out the regular season while finishing undefeated in Northeast 10 Conference play to win the regular season title.

Highlights
  • Saint Anselm finishes the season at 10-2-3 with a 7-0-2 record in NE10 matchups, its first undefeated finish in conference play since 1994, when the Hawks went 8-0-1.
  • The Hawks claim their second NE10 regular-season title in program history and first since 1994. Saint Anselm will host an NE10 Semifinal matchup as the No. 1 seed on the Hilltop on Thursday, Nov. 13, after receiving a first-round bye in the tournament.
  • Saint Anselm is now 13-23-8 all-time against Southern New Hampshire as the Queen City neighbors have tied in three straight meetings.
  • The Hawks cracked the United States Coaches Top 25 poll for the first time this season, claiming the No. 17 spot in Division II and the No. 2 spot in the East Region.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski moves to 10-1-3 on the season, making one save while allowing one goal.
  • Junior Camryn Doyle scored her third goal of the season on an assist from senior captain Gabrielle Chisholm, her first point of the season.
  • The Hawks outshot the Penmen 16-6, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Saint Anselm led 8-5 in corner kicks as well.
How it Happened

Senior Nina Muir had an early chance for the Hawks with a deep shot on goal in the fifth minute that was directed towards the top left corner of the goal, but was knocked out of play by the Penmen goalie.

In the 28th minute, a long pass from Chisholm through the right side of the SNHU defense made its way to Doyle in the box, who slid, got up off the ground, and then fired a right-footed shot past SNHU's netminder to put Saint Anselm in front, 1-0.

The Hawks nearly added to their lead in the 29th and 30th minutes when Muir fired off a pair of shots from point-blank range in the goalie box, but Penmen goalie Claudia Keith was up to the task, turning away both shots to keep Southern New Hampshire within one.

Swidorski made her lone save of the day on a long shot from SNHU's Emma Noheimer that forced Swidorski to make a dive to her left as she swatted the ball away to keep Saint Anselm in front, 1-0, in the 37th minute.

The Penmen defense remained stout for the remainder of the game, keeping the Hawks from recording a shot on goal up until the final whistle.

Southern New Hampshire continued to put the pressure on Saint Anselm and eventually broke through the Hawks' defense, scoring in the 79th minute to tie things at 1-1 on a goal from Jillian Collins. The score remained 1-1 as the final horn sounded, and the Queen City showdown ended in a draw.
