How it Happened
Saint Anselm controlled the bar early in the Jefferson defensive zone, ripping off a pair of shots, but one was blocked and the other missed wide left as the Rams' defense held strong. In the seventh minute, the Rams had their first possession on the Hawks' side of the ball and had a shot attempt go just over the crossbar for their first attempt of the night.
Swidorski made her first save of the day in the 12th minute on a shot that was sent directly to her in the middle of the net of the foot of Nikki Dedes. The Hawks nearly got on the board in the 23rd minute off a nice corner kick by Jimenez that found freshman
Connie Patturelli in open space in the box, but her shot was deflected up and over the crossbar by Jefferson goalkeeper Carly Hayman.
The Rams struck first in the 31st minute as a long shot from Kyra Lesko found the top right corner of the goal, over the outstretched arm of Swidorski, to give Jefferson a 1-0 lead. Jimenez had a pair of shots get blocked, while Deneen had a free kick miss wide left as the score remained 1-0 at the half.
Swidorski made another big save in the 54th minute, and just over a minute later, Jimenez dribbled down the left side of the field, crossing in a pass that found Crowley, who fired a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner of the net for the equalizing goal.
A flurry of shots for Jefferson in the 62nd minute nearly gave the Rams the lead, but Swidorski made another save. The sophomore netminder from Woodbury, Minn., made her best save of the night in the 72nd minute, halting a two-on-one break for the Rams, diving to her right on a shot from deep in the box to keep the score tied.
Jefferson broke the tie in the 80th minute as a quick turn in the open field by a Rams forward put them ahead of the Hawks' defense, leading to another two-on-one break, but Swidorski was unable to make the stop this time, as Izzy Alexandre slotted her shot into the lower right corner of the goal to make the score 2-1.
The Rams came close to adding to their lead in the 82nd minute off a nicely placed corner kick, but sophomore
Kaitlyn LeBrun was able to get a foot on a shot and make a defensive save for the Hawks.
Saint Anselm had just two shot attempts for the remainder of the game and was unable to put one on goal as Jefferson held on to win, 2-1.
