HOW IT HAPPENED:
- American Int'l (AIC) would score the first four points behind Chelsea Reeves connecting on jumpers. The first bucket for the Hawks came from senior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) who would connect on a sidestep pull up just inside the arch. Saint Anselm would advance to an 11-7 lead off of a triple from freshman Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) and a pair of triples from Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine). The first quarter would come to an end with the Hawks up 14-12 as junior Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) would connect on a pair of free throws.
- Forbes would continue apply pressure on the Yellow Jackets defense connected on a layup from Sulikowski to give a four-point cushion. American Int'l would go on to flip the tide taking a four-point lead behind a tangent of turnovers and strong shooting from Christi Ruzgar Boyle. Senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) would join the scoring list bringing Saint Anselm but into the game with a strong move in the paint. American Int'l would finish the half leading 26-25.
- Coming out of halftime the Yellowjackets would extend their lead to four again off of an and one form Reeves. Nelson would continue her shooting streak into the second half bringing the Hawks back within a possession. Back-to-back triples from Sulikowski and Nelson would give the Hawks a five-point lead halfway through the third period of play. A five-point run by Elisa MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) off of a clutch and one would keep the Hawks at a three-possession distance through the end of three.
- Saint Anselm would find their largest lead in the final quarter as Forbes would cash in from deep just under a minute into the quarter. For AIC Reeves would continue to pour in points but a pair of lay-ups from Hoyt keep the space between the teams. Halfway through the quarter the Yellowjackets would cut the lead to five earning a trip to the charity stripe, but a jumper from Hoyt would end the attempt at a comeback.
