HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm kicked off the scoring of the competition as Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) drove through three defenders to score. Assumption would then go on a 7-2 run off of a big triple from Marina Callahan. The Hawks response would come from senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) who would earn a trip to the free throw line and connect on both to bring the score back within one. Saint Anselm would go on an offensive tear pushing the ball in transition finding Forbes for back-to-back buckets. Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine) would cash in from deep to expand the Hawks lead to 10 with two minutes remaining. Forbes would finalize scoring for the Hawks to end the quarter giving the Saint Anselm squad a 20-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • To open the second quarter Elise MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) would find herself in a scoring position off of a smart back cut to give the Hawks their largest lead at 11. Maeve Moriarty would ignite a response for the Greyhounds with a pull-up jumper in the paint before Hoyt would bury her defender in the paint for her eighth point of the match. Forbes would continue to shine for Saint Anselm bringing them back up by 11 as she would push pace and score in transition registering the score at 28-17 with four minutes remaining in the half. Kaijhe Hall would score four straight points for the Greyhounds bringing the game within four before Saint Anselm would take off. A strike in the paint from Hoyt and triple from MacNair would slow down the Hounds putting them back 12 points, but Molly Stokes would bring the game back within 10-points to end the half 35-25.
  • Assumption kicked off the scoring in the second half as Hall would earn a trip to the charity stripe early bringing the game within nine. First year Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) added her name to the scoring list, tabbing a deep three fed off of a strong offensive rebound. The Hawks would continue to roll halfway through the third quarter as Hoyt would continue to have a dominant performance in the paint. Grace Leary would step up for the Greyhounds bringing the game back within 13 points as she would step in and step up to make two free throws. Saint Anselm would end the quarter on a high note as Forbes would find herself in transition for another floating jumper.
  • The fourth quarter would be the most competitive of the evening but before things could get close Forbes and Sulikowski would combine for a 5-0 run bringing the score to 52-38 in favor of the home team. Queue in Leary, who would take her team on her back and complete back-to-back-to-back triples. Leary would bring the team within six points and teammate Callahan would bring it to within four before Hoyt would respond. Four points from Hoyt and a pair of trips to the free throw line from Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) would seal the win for the Hawks 70-61.
